As easy as 1, 2, 3..?

The Reception children have made a fantastic start to their learning journey. Now that they have settled into routines, they have begun learning the basics of reading and writing (through phonics) and of early number. Each number takes a special turn to be learnt about: what makes it special, where it fits in the number sequence, how it can be made and partitioned in different ways. So, I suppose it isn’t quite as simple as 1, 2, 3 at all! There’s much more to learning about numbers than simply counting. This week, Reception have been learning about number 3! Three is one more than two and two is one less than three. They have been exploring the patterns of one more and one less through number steps and of course through number rhymes (poor monkeys need to be more careful around crocodiles!).

Not wanting to be left out, the Year 1s have also been amazing with their knowledge of more and less and are even learning the special symbols that show more and less.

It looks like the steps to success are firmly being laid!

And speaking of crocodiles, Oak Class had an encounter with them on their amazing trip to Longleat this week. As well as the train journey, highlights of the trip included seeing the baby koalas and tiger cubs and feeding the macaws. I can’t wait to hear more about it!

As well as hearing about the other trips that have been planned for this term- keep your eyes peeled!
