Mindful Mondays
Focus only on your breath. Breathe in……and out…... Well hopefully, you feel relaxed and able to concentrate on reading this post. Mindfulness has been growing steadily in importance at Box Primary School, after the introduction of mindful Mondays last year (where every class took 5 minutes to complete a mindfulness activity each Monday). Mindfulness is being more aware of ourselves and our surroundings; to do this we pay more attention to our senses rather that getting swept up in school-life and routines. And this year every class has changed its timetable to extend mindful Mondays from 5 minutes to 20 minutes.
Each mindful Monday is different, and different in each class. It may take the form of concentrating on our breathing, it may involve us listening to music and expressing how it makes us feel or it may involve us going outside and using our 5 senses to explore the world around us: 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel.
We’re hoping to soon see a benefit in our mental health as well as our ability to concentrate.
