Sew Amazing!

Chestnut Class have been busy this term with their DT project of sewing their own stuffed animals. Choices of animals varied from tortoises to pigs, to cats, to the very popular elephant. Some picked their favourite animals, some picked a variation on their favourite toy, some picked well-liked game or TV characters and some just went for an animal that had an easy shape to make.  The basic shapes were cut out of felt, before being sewn together using the blanket stitch- something that was very tricky to master, but was a good choice for keeping all the stuffing inside (some that tried a running stitch found that not quite so effective). One of the trickiest things was to make sure that the fabric stayed well away from clothes; one jumper that was left on a table, very soon became ‘blanket stitched’ to a toy! The final step was to add embellishments, button eyes, legs and ears; luckily, running stitch was a good choice for this. Chestnut Class were so proud of their work, they understandably wanted to take them home straight away- unfortunately for them, Miss Wells also thought that they had done a brilliant job and has put them up on display. Sorry Chestnut Class- hopefully soon! I think you’ll agree that they do look fantastic! Who knows how long they’ll be on display for, so get in to see them whilst you can.
