Sycamore Homework and spellings 22.11

Sycamore Class have been celebrating Parliament Week! We have been learning all about what parliament is, how the government works and what MPs do. We have also learnt that every person in the UK has a say in parliament. As part of our week, we have been writing letters to our local MP, Brian Mathew, about climate change (an issue voted most popular by the whole class-democracy in action).

For your homework, I would like you to think about an issue close to your heart. This could be an issue in the world, the UK, the local area or the school. It could be world peace, homes for the homeless, litter pickers on the Rec or more playtime- anything. Write a persuasive argument for change in this issue. Use the skills that we have learnt this week. Start by explaining the issue- what is the problem? Can you use research to back up your argument? Then explain how this issue can be resolved. What things can be put in place so that this is no longer an issue? Or what can we do to help? You could present your argument as a letter, a booklet, a poster or perform from a script like an MP during a debate.

Remember to use persuasive sentence starters, emotive language and rhetorical questions. (I’ve attached some word mats to support.) Read back though your work to check for correct punctuation and spellings.

I look forward to reading your arguments- and who knows, we may even start something that makes a change!
